HPC Fire Dual Step Outdoor Gas Fireplace H-Burner, 36" or 42" Fireplaces
The HPC Fire Dual Step burner converts an outdoor wood fireplace to gas with an H-burner whose rear leg is raised, giving the fire depth. It fits the two most common outdoor fireplace widths, 36" and 42", for retrofits or new construction, with electronic or push button flame sensing ignition.
Choosing Size, Ignition and Gas Type
Work through these choices in order. Each one changes what your site needs before installation.
1. Size
- The size options are pan sizes: 22″ and 28″ for electronic models (DBOF22EI, DBOF28EI), 27″ and 33″ for push button models (DBOF27PBFS, DBOF33PBFS).
- The 22″ and 28″ pans fit 36" and 42" wide fireplaces; the table below lists their BTU and minimum fireplace opening.
2. Ignition

3. Gas Type
- Natural Gas: for a fixed natural gas line. Supply pressure 3.5" to 7.0" W.C.
- Liquid Propane: for fixed propane piping. Supply pressure 8.0" to 11.0" W.C.
- Electronic ignition models are for fixed gas piping only, not small propane tanks.
- Order the gas type your site is plumbed for. Modifying the product voids its certification and warranty.

- Natural gas supply pressure: minimum 3.5" W.C., maximum 7.0" W.C. LP: minimum 8" W.C., maximum 11.0" W.C.
- Modifying the product voids its certification and warranty. Follow HPC's installation instructions and local codes.
Warranty: HPC lists a lifetime warranty on its stainless steel outdoor fireplace burners; electronics and gas valve 3 years residential, 1 year commercial; pilot assembly 2 years residential, 1 year commercial; stainless steel pan and valve box 5 years residential, 1 year commercial (HPC manuals). Coverage is for parts and HPC in-house labor.
